Accidentally Deleted Your Travel eSIM? Can It Be Reinstalled?

Support checklist used to reinstall deleted eSIM service after accidental removal

You may be able to reinstall deleted eSIM service, but only the provider can confirm whether the original activation code is reusable or issue a replacement. Deleting the profile does not necessarily cancel the paid plan or contract. Stop rescanning the old QR code, keep the order reference and contact official support with the phone model, EID or IMEI if requested, and the time deletion occurred.

What deletion changes

Deleting removes the downloaded mobile profile from the phone. It is different from switching the line off, which preserves the profile, and different from cancelling the underlying service with the provider.

Apple says erasing an eSIM requires contacting the network provider for a new one. Samsung likewise notes that removing a mobile plan from a Galaxy phone does not terminate the contract. These are reasons to recover through the provider rather than assuming the purchase disappeared or buying again immediately.

Turning the phone off, restarting it or disabling a line does not delete the profile. Before reporting deletion, reopen the complete SIM list and check whether the line is merely off or renamed. That can avoid an unnecessary replacement.

How to reinstall deleted eSIM service safely

  1. Stop activation attempts. Do not scan the same code on several devices.
  2. Preserve the evidence. Save the order, plan name, destination, purchase email and original installation instructions.
  3. Check the provider account. Note whether the plan appears active, unused, expired or installed.
  4. Record device details. Find the exact model, operating-system version, EID and IMEI, but share identifiers only privately.
  5. Contact official support. State clearly that the profile was deleted and ask whether reinstallation, transfer or replacement is supported.
  6. Wait for a confirmed method. Use the new QR, manual code, provider app or carrier transfer flow supplied for this order.
  7. Test before closing the case. Confirm the profile appears, registers and uses mobile data under the provider's settings.

If the original QR reports used or invalid, do not keep trying. eSIM QR Code Invalid or Already Used? What Not to Do explains how to document that status for support.

Questions to ask the provider

  • Can the original code be used again on the same phone?
  • Can a replacement profile be issued for the remaining plan?
  • Will replacement change the validity or data balance?
  • Does the old profile need to be released from the EID?
  • Is an app-based or manual installation available?
  • Can the plan transfer to another phone?
  • What proof of purchase or identity is required?

Provider policies differ. A successful reinstall described in an old forum post is not evidence for your plan. Get the instructions in writing and keep the support case number.

Ask support to distinguish the profile state from the package state. The profile may be missing while data and validity remain on the account, or the package may already have expired. Recovery of one does not automatically extend the other.

Do not confuse cloud restore with eSIM recovery

A phone backup can restore apps, photos and settings, but an eSIM is a carrier credential. Whether it transfers or redownloads depends on manufacturer and provider support. Do not erase the whole phone and restore a backup as a shortcut; that can destroy more evidence without making the provider issue a new profile.

Likewise, moving an activation QR screenshot to another device is not an authorised transfer method. Use the device maker's SIM transfer flow or provider process.

If you are already abroad

Connect to trusted accommodation or official airport Wi-Fi, or use a companion's hotspot. Download the first accommodation, transport details and offline map while the connection is available. Keep the home line's data roaming off unless you deliberately accept its fees.

If support restores the profile but it shows No Service, check destination coverage, roaming and automatic network selection. Use How to Manually Select a Network When Your eSIM Won’t Connect only when the provider supplies an approved partner network; do not select arbitrary carriers.

If you need to prove purchase, send only the requested receipt fields through the official private channel. Redact unrelated payment details and never post identity documents in a public help thread.

After reinstallation

Label the line Travel, select it for mobile data, set roaming and APN as instructed and turn off automatic switching to Home. Test one webpage with Wi-Fi off. If it registers but feels slow, use the controlled checks in Why Your eSIM Is Slow: 5G, LTE, Congestion, Routing, and Throttling rather than reinstalling again.

If the line has signal but no internet, verify data-line selection, plan status, allowance and APN with eSIM Connected but No Internet: A Fix-First Checklist. Reinstallation fixes a missing profile, not every data problem.

Keep the replacement QR private after success. The Settings screen showing a working line is adequate for your records; there is no need to retain the code in an unsecured photo album.

Prevent another accidental deletion

  • Use clear profile labels with region and trip date.
  • Switch a line off instead of removing it.
  • Keep order and support details outside the phone.
  • Confirm reuse or top-up rights before deleting an expired profile.
  • When resetting a phone, read the prompt about retaining eSIMs carefully.

Apple advises against erasing an eSIM as a troubleshooting step unless the network provider directs it.

For future travel, browse current eSIM Vibes destination plans and save the plan-specific recovery instructions before departure.

Frequently asked questions

Does deleting an eSIM cancel the plan?

Not necessarily. Profile removal and service cancellation are separate. Check the provider account and contract.

Can I scan the original QR code again?

Only if the provider confirms it remains reusable. Many activation codes have device or download limits.

Will a factory reset restore the eSIM?

Do not rely on it. A reset can erase data and profiles; recovery still depends on the carrier and the choices shown during reset.
